Today Mrs. Hausman came to read to us! She brought with her books with a "Groundhogs". First she shared a non-fiction book about groundhogs with us and we learned lots of neat facts about them. Did you know that groundhogs are actually in the squirrel family?!?! She also brought stories about groundhog characters. We enjoyed them! Next, we made our own book about Phil the Groundhog.

If you ask one of the kindergarteners in room 166 what their favorite time of day is in our classroom, most will, undoubtly respond with "choice time". During choice time, kids have the freedom to engage in learning activities of their own choice, with whomever they choose. They love it. Miss Kate was here today to teach us all about physical activity. She talked to us about different kinds of exercise: cardiovascular endurance, strength building, and flexibility. We learned that our heart is a muscle and that we should be sure to excercise it too! We drew a picture of our favorite physical activity, listened to miss Kate read us two fun stories, and tried a heathy trail mix for snack! Miss Kate always packs our hour visit full of fun and learning! We love "PeNut Day" and already can't to see Miss Kate again! The children are very familiar with the traditional/classic story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears... But, today Mrs. Hausman, our visiting storyteller, shared stories with a "Goldilocks theme" that most hadn't heard before. Each of the stories had similarities to the classic fairy tale, but also had their own humorous twists. The first story was the most similar to the classic, only the bears are polar bears and the curious "visitor" is an Inuit girl named Aloo-ki. The twist ... the bears help save Aloo-ki's sled dogs who have gone missing. In the next story, it's the people, the Blair family, who go out to a park while a bear is the "somebody" breaking in. The last story had a family of dinosaurs setting a trap to catch Goldilocks. The children thought this one was laugh out loud silly and ... what kindergartner isn't going to enjoy a familiar story retold with dinosaurs! 😉 Thank you Mrs. Hausman... you never disappoint! We can't wait to see what stories you bring next! Wishing you ALL, a New Year that is full of love, hope, good health, family, friends, books, and anything and everything that may bring you joy and peace. Looking forward to seeing you in 2016 💫 |
