The following is information that will be helpful for you to
know:
LUNCH
The children will be eating lunch from 11:10-11:40.
There is no charge for hot lunch.
ARRIVAL / DISMISSAL
School begins at 8:25 a.m. Breakfast is served in the classroom daily. Please be prompt, as late arrivals can make your child uncomfortable. Children enter through the door at the end of our hallway (facing the parking lot). They are dismissed through the side door, directly to the left, exiting our classroom.
The children will be dismissed promptly at 3:25 p.m.
They will wait at the fence (near the small playground) with me and must let me know when they are leaving and with whom they are going. Children not picked up at 3:25 are instructed to wait outside the building near the front entrance.
If there is a change in who will be picking your child up, please call the office or send a note with your child. Students will not be able to change their usual transportation unless the school receives a phone call or note from
the child’s parent/guardian.
S.T.A.R. Folders
Our classroom uses S.T.A.R. (Skills to Teach Academic Responsibility) folders to help us organize materials and stay organized throughout the year! These folders will be given out at Open House. I hope that you will find it very helpful in managing calendars, newsletters, activities, etc.
What is a S.T.A.R. Folder?
It is a folder, put together by Mrs. Sipe, that houses EVERYTHING parents need to keep up with what is going on at
school. Important papers, notes, newsletters, and calendars all in one place! No wrinkled papers in the bottom of book bags. No lost notes, newsletters, calendars, or missed activities. No searching the house to find
paper to write the teacher a note. Everything is in one folder!
CLASSROOM NEWS
I’ll update our S.T.A.R. Folders, monthly, with information, in the form of a newsletter about our classroom activities and some upcoming events and reminders.
HOMEWORK
Homework is typically assigned on Thursdays, due back on Monday. In addition, our “popcorn word challenge” cards and monthly activity calendar will be included in your child’s S.T.A.R. folder to work from time to time.
READING
I encourage you to read to your child often!! Research shows that sharing books with children helps them develop
reading and language skills necessary for successful learning.
**** SUPPLIES ****
Please provide the following:
Book bag
– a book bag labeled with your child’s name should be brought to school daily to insure that our S.T.A.R.
folders and all projects get home safely. It is important that you empty and review the contents daily.
EXPO Washable Dry Erase Markers– 1 package = 6 markers
Ear buds
– 1 pair (in a baggie labeled with your child’s name)
**It would be helpful to have a pencil, box of crayons, child-safe scissors, and a glue stick at home to use for homework and practice work.
OUTDOOR RECESS & “GYM DAY”
Outdoor recess is part of the school day, so please dress your child with a jacket when appropriate.
Please practice with your child fastening outdoor wear independently. Gym shoes must be
worn on “gym day” for your child to participate in gymnasium activities. Our class attends Gym on
Monday.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS
Our school uniform is a navy-blue bottom with a white top worn Monday through Friday. Navy blue or black shoes
must be worn for your child to be considered “in uniform”…with the exception of “gym day”, in which case, gym shoes are acceptable.
SNACK
Class snacks are to be provided by the children on a rotating basis. Your child will be responsible for providing snack for the class approximately once every 4-5 weeks. Your child’s name will be listed on the“SNACK CALENDAR” (sent home monthly in our S.T.A.R. folders) when it is his/her turn. I will also let you know how many snacks will be needed. Please do not send candy or snacks containing peanuts or peanut butter.
Some suggested snacks include: animal cookies, graham crackers, pre-cut and washed fruit/vegetables,
cheese, crackers, raisings, pretzels, and fun fruits.
Birthday treats are always welcome… just let me know in advance.
